Chinese Lanterns

Nothing captures the essence of China for me quite like Chinese lanterns. There is something magical about lit bridges and hallways during the Lantern Festival at the end of Chinese New Years, their colours and diverse shapes during the Autumn festival, or simply the friendly decorative warmth they give a narrow street on a dark night indicating an open restaurant with rich and tasty food.

These Chinese Lanterns were set out for the Autumn Moon Festival in Old Street in Suzhou Industrial Park. Lanterns are symbolic of good fortune and happiness and are usually red. This lantern is decorative. The Moon Festival celebrates the fall harvest on a day with a full moon in the eighth month. Usually in mid-September to early October.
