Image Details for Kleipeda, Lithuania

1. Building with turret in Klaipeda, Lithuania. The unusual turret on the roof of this building attracted my attention. It appears to be an apartment block.

2. Klaipeda Post Office. Klaipeda Post Office, a red brick buildingwith two windows bricked up on the upper floor. A Gothic entrance with heavy ornamental doors. The top of the Gothic facade even blocks the upper, central window.

3. Interesting architectural feature on the windows of a building in Klaipeda, Lithuania. House in Klaipeda with interesting architectural features on the form of four statues, two to each window. All statues are female, two in classical style garb and two in what could be 19th Century clothing with chains and a small anchor at their base.

4. House on Tiltu Street, Klaipeda, Lithuania. The coat of arms of the city of KlaipÄ—da, Lithuania. The modern coat of arms was created by restoring old seals of the city of Memel (analogous with those used in the years 1446, 1605 and 1618; Memel is the German name for the city, used when it belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia). It was affirmed on July 1, 1992. The charges are a stone castle and a boat. They have been rendered somewhat differently through the years but always in line with the blazon.

When the vessel was laid up, it was turned into a restaurant and moored near the Dane River bank but owners allowed it to fall into disrepair. The lawyer A. Žičkus then bought it for a token sum of one Litas and MERIDIANAS once again became the symbol of Klaipėda. Today the restaurant "Meridianas"
