Highfield Historic Site, Tasmania

Stock Photography By Rodney Garnett

The Van Diemen's Land Company was granted large holdings in Tasmania in 1825 and chose Stanley as their centre of operations. Highfield house was constructed in 1832 with extensions by architect John Lee Archer in the 1840s. The historic site is managed today by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the house and outbuildings including the chapel, stables and the convict barracks, now ruins, are open for visitors.
