Chitwan National Park situated in southern Nepal is home to the single-horned Asian rhinoceros, tigers, deer, monkeys and a huge variety of birds. It can be explored on elephant back, on foot or by boat. The elephants used on these safaris usually have their faces decorated and are under the control of a mahoot. Chitwan became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984.
