The Burning Towers, Beechworth, Victoria, Australia

The ceremonial burning towers were built at the Chinese Cemetery in Beechworth in 1857. According to their customs the local Chinese burned in them paper prayers and offerings to the dead. The altar in the centre and behind them was added much later in about 1883. The towers are rare and historically important objects. .
