Xian 17 Statue of Xuanzang

Xuanzang, a brilliant young Buddhist monk and later the first abbot of Da Cien En Temple Complex, set out from China to India to find answers that troubled Buddhist scholars. Seventeen years later, after an epic journey traversing mountain ranges and brutal deserts and visiting over a hundred countries he had obtained 657 kinds of Sutras, and several sacred Buddhist relics and returned to China. Fifty hierarchs in the temple translated Sanskrit Sutras to Chinese in what would eventually be .
