Xian 30 Muslim Quarter

Trade brought merchants from Arabia, Central Asia, Persia and with it the Muslim religion. The Emperor Gao Zong of the Tang Dynasty officially allowed the practice of Islam in Xian in 657 AD. Through intermarriage, Islamic culture found a foothold in Xian and many of those in Xian today are descended from Muslim traders and diplomatic envoys.
